The Association of Women in the Mining Sector (WIMA) was established on March 8, 2021 upon the submission of the founding documents (By-law, Founding Declaration and Letter of Address Proof) to the Provincial Directorate of Civil Society Relations of Ankara Governorship. The association was established to bring together all workers, both men and women, who have gained or are seeking competences in their fields of expertise in the mining sector in Turkey; to ensure solidarity among its members in technical and social matters; to contribute to the development of mining in the country and the related legislative arrangements; and to strive for the improvement of the rights of personnel in the mining sector.
The founding board of the association, after allocating duties among themselves, immediately started working on the institutionalization of the organization. In line with its objectives, the association attaches importance to activities related to the registration of members, visibility and awareness-raising.
Since the foundation of the association, its members have been invited to numerous events at various universities as speakers and have delivered speeches. Among these, a QA-QC workshop in which Armando Simon Mendez participated as a trainer was held on May 4–7, 2021 that was attended by 100 participants. Furthermore, on March 8, 2022, a seminar was organized with the participation of leading male and female professionals to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the association.
